2015 Winter Spring Season

Sunset Music | Arts, is proud to announce its 2015 season with returning guests artists and several new artists. The season kicks off January 17, with a recital by pianist Leon Rosen. Rosen performed with jazz giants Sonny Simmons and Herbie Lewis before attending New School University’s jazz program. Moving to Israel to study in a rabbinic seminary and work with Jerusalem Peacemakers, he released “Holding Space,” http://www.jpost.com/Arts-and-Culture/Music/Jewish-Discs-Ariel-Elisha-Rosen an album of improvisations on Hebrew liturgical themes. The Jerusalem Post called it raw, emotional, uplifting, and inventive, and Rosen an agile and clever pianist. The program will also include Mezzo Soprano Sally Porter Munro of the SF Opera performing “Favorite Broadway Show Tunes and More.”

On February 21, we are featuring returning guest artists, the Circadian String Quartet, in a concert entitled ‘The Fertile Crescent: folk inspired chamber music from Persia and beyond.’ On February 28, we are partnering with San Francisco Shakespeare Festival to present Shakespeare’s As You Like It, directed by Stephen Muterspaugh.

For Holy Week, on March 30, we will feature the sublime Stabat Mater by Pergolesi, with San Francisco Opera Chorus members, soprano Virginia Pluth and mezzo-soprano Sally Porter Munro, accompanied by the esteemed Rimsky-Korsakov String Quartet from St. Petersburg, Russia, along with Jonathan Salzedo, harpsichord, and Marion Rubinstein, organ.

On May 24, we are proud to present the Golden Gate Trio, with Mark Volkert, Assistant Concert Master of the San Francisco Symphony; Su Buchignani, violist with Golden Gate Music, and Jan Volkert, Principal Cellist at the Marin Symphony.

Finally, from June 15 to 26, we continue our partnership with San Francisco Shakespeare Festival to host a two-week Shakespeare camp to kids aged 7-13. We are looking to add additional concerts, workshops, dance and visual art offerings. Please visit our Web site for the latest details, dates, and times.
